What You Need to Know to Undertake Fork Lift Training

There are very few legal requirements in order to be able to undertake fork lift training. However, you must be at least 16 years old to begin training, and you must be in good physical health. This means that you must be free from conditions that impair your physical ability to operate machinery. It is your employer’s responsibility to deem you fit enough.

Fork lift trucks can be extremely dangerous to operate if they are handled wrong. Our certificate training services include things such as safety codes of practice and identifying and preventing hazards, and load handling and safe operating procedures. The Importance of Fork Lift Training

Here at James T Whitaker, we offer a variety of fork lift training services. Many people don’t realise that each type of fork lift requires a different training course. Your training certificate will only allow you to drive that particular type of truck. You will need to take a different course for others.

Each truck can be taken at different levels of training: Novice, conversion, semi-experience operator and refresher training. We can offer training to both novice and experienced operators. It could take between 1 – 5 days to train an individual, depending on their current experience.

If you are a beginner, you will cover everything you need to know about operating a fork lift. You will be taught how to safely load the truck, and carry out a theory test which will test you on your knowledge. Following this, your trainer will teach you how to operate a truck safely, and they will assess you. If you pass both your theory and practical test, you will obtain a certificate and you will be a certified operator of that particular fork lift truck.

If you’re in for a refresher course, you will need to be up to date on the latest legislation. We will assess your practical skills and ensure you are up to date on new regulations by the time you complete your course.

To add this this, we can provide training on a number of different types of fork lift trucks, including counterbalance, side loaders and container handlers. For our full list, please contact us.
