FLT training Leeds
JTW Training delivers onsite forklift training in Leeds for businesses that need their operators safe, skilled and compliant. We don’t run a training centre. Our instructors come out to you instead, and your operators learn on the same trucks they’ll be driving next week.
Leeds is a big place for warehousing. The M1 and M62 meet just south of the city and the A1(M) runs to the east, so it’s no surprise so many depots have set up here. You’ll find them in Cross Green and Stourton, along the Aire Valley and out in Morley. Every one of them relies on forklift drivers who know what they’re doing.
Those sites come in all shapes and sizes. Some have a single counterbalance in the yard. Others run a fleet of reach trucks across three shifts. We train for both, so it doesn’t matter whether you’ve got one new starter to get through this week or a whole team due their refreshers.
We’ve trained forklift operators for over 25 years. Our courses are accredited by BRITTOp, ITSSAR and RTITB, so the certificate your operators earn is recognised across the UK.
Maybe you’ve taken on new starters. Maybe your team’s due a refresher, or someone’s moving from a counterbalance to a reach truck. Either way we’ll plan the course around your site and your shift pattern.
Every course mixes classroom theory with plenty of time on the truck. Operators are assessed at the end, and the ones who pass leave with a certificate showing they’ve been trained to a recognised standard. That gives you a clear record of who’s trained on what.

How onsite forklift training works at your Leeds site
Every course we run in Leeds takes place at your workplace. Nobody has to travel across the city to a training centre, and you don’t lose staff for longer than the course itself.
Training on your own site makes a real difference. Operators learn on the truck they’ll drive once the course is over. They practise in your aisles, around your racking and on your loading bays. The hazards we cover are the ones they’ll meet on a normal shift.
We work with small and large teams. If you’ve only got one or two operators to train, we’ll run a session just for them. If it’s a bigger group, we’ll split them up and spread the training out so you’ve always got enough drivers on the floor.
It keeps disruption down too. We’ll work around your hours, so the rest of the site carries on as normal while a few people are on the course.
The practical side uses your own loads and your own practice area wherever we can. Pallets of stock, building materials, drums or cages. If your operators handle it every day, it makes sense for them to train with it.
Give us a ring first and tell us what trucks you run, who needs training and how much they’ve done before. We’ll suggest a course from there and find a date that works.

Frequently asked questions
- Do you have a forklift training centre in Leeds?
No. All of our training is onsite. Our instructors come to your workplace in Leeds and train your team on your own trucks. It saves travel and means operators learn in the place they’ll actually be working.
- Do forklift operators need an FLT licence?
There’s no such thing as a forklift licence in the UK. What the law asks is that employers make sure operators are properly trained, assessed and authorised to use each type of truck. HSE’s guidance on lift truck training (L117) sets out what that training should cover. Operators who pass our courses get an accredited certificate, which is what most people mean when they talk about an FLT licence.
- What forklift courses do you offer in Leeds?
We offer novice, experienced, refresher and conversion courses. They cover all the main truck types, including counterbalance, reach, bendi, multi-directional, sideloader, telehandler and pallet trucks.
- How long does forklift training take?
It depends on the truck and how much experience your operators have. Novice courses usually run for 3 to 5 days. Refresher and conversion courses can be done in 1 to 3 days.
- Do operators need any experience before a course?
No. Our novice courses are for people who’ve never driven a forklift. We start with the safety basics on day one and work up to handling loads with confidence by the end of the course.
- Which accreditations do your courses have?
Our courses are accredited by BRITTOp, ITSSAR and RTITB. Every fork truck course we deliver is RTITB accredited. All three are recognised across the UK.
- How often do operators need refresher training?
Most employers book one every 3 to 5 years. Don’t wait that long if there’s been an accident or a near miss, if someone’s switched truck or changed how they work, or if you’ve noticed bad habits creeping in.
- Can you train one operator or a whole team?
Yes. We run courses for individual operators and for groups. Tell us how many people need training and we’ll plan the course around them.
- Do you cover areas outside Leeds?
Yes. We train at sites across West Yorkshire and beyond, including Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Harrogate and York. We have instructors throughout the UK, so get in touch wherever your site is.
